Matt first began his career in the industry over a decade ago, and one of his first jobs as an employee was cleaning the steelwork and windows at Suncorp Stadium. Twelve years later, his company, Fidato, was awarded the job.
Challenge
Our team was efficiently tackling the cleaning tasks when an unexpected natural occurrence disrupted our progress. The February floods severely impacted our operations, as the floodwaters from the Brisbane River inundated the field, halting all work for approximately two weeks. This posed a significant challenge as we needed to adhere to our strict work schedule while dealing with nature’s unpredictability.
Solution
Once the floodwaters receded, we swiftly resumed operations and successfully executed the window cleaning project. This restoration phase allowed us to utilise our crew’s full capabilities and demonstrate our commitment to quality service. Not only did we complete the task at hand, but we also ensured that we adhered to the highest safety and cleaning standards.
The Issue
Given it was now football season, we had a strict schedule to stick to; no weekend work and no access on game days. With these stipulations, we needed to complete a week’s worth of work in three days.
Our Approach
To complete the project on time, we had to work long shifts leading up to game day. By using two crews, starting early, and including night shifts for the steel work, we were able to stay on schedule. For our crew, this meant the ambitious goal of completing a week’s worth of work within a constrained timeline of just three days. To achieve this, we relied on our state-of-the-art equipment, including two high-powered pressure washers and an advanced ionic Quattro system.
Risk
Failure to complete window cleaning and steel brushing would have meant two things.
1. With recent humidity, we knew we had to complete brushing the steel beams or risk further buildup of corrosion.
2.  Professional reputation of Fidato Services as a reliable and trustworthy service provider on ropes would be marred.
Response
In outdoor environments such as stadiums, steel is particularly prone to rust and corrosion due to exposure to elements like rain, humidity, and pollutants. These factors can deteriorate the strength of steel over time. To maintain the structural integrity of stadium beams, regular brushing is essential. This process effectively removes rust and corrosion, paving the way for protective coatings that not only prevent further damage but also significantly enhance the longevity of the steel structures.

This project underscores the importance of adaptability and teamwork in overcoming challenges posed by external factors, such as natural disasters. Our ability to meet strict deadlines while maintaining high standards of work reflects our dedication to excellence, positioning us as a trusted service provider in Brisbane.
