Cilento Cove, with its once-vibrant blue-green and yellow hues, had not had a complete external makeover for more than 12 years. Recognisng the need for modernisation, the Body Corporate sought a comprehensive solution for a complete external repaint.

Cilento Cove had not undergone an external repaint in over 12 years, resulting in the building’s dated blue/green and yellow colour scheme.
Challenge
Following a thorough washdown of the premises, our team identified about 60 linear meters of damaged expansion joints and cracks. These issues needed immediate attention to prevent water intrusion into residents’ homes and ensure their safety and comfort was not compromised.
Solution
Once we shared our findings with the homeowners, our team diligently moved forward to address and mend the identified expansion joints and cracks. Following the application of the initial layer of paint, residents couldn’t help but express their disbelief at the transformation.
The Issue
Our primary concern with the project was to transform the exterior facade of the building to reflect modern design trends and enhance its curb appeal. In doing so, we needed to tackle essential structural repairs by addressing failed expansion joints, effectively resolving any water leakage issues. To ensure transparency, we maintained open communication between the Body Corporate and residents to prevent any surprises.
Our Approach
We embarked on a collaborative journey by meeting with numerous residents from the body corporate, diving into their desires and preferences to capture every nuance of their vision. To bring this vision to life, we enlisted Rachael, our expert colour consultant, renowned for her creative flair. She presented an inspiring array of colour palettes and overlays designed to elevate the building’s aesthetics while infusing it with a fresh, contemporary elegance. After deliberation, the committee selected a colour scheme that matched their vision. We organised all essential amenities to ensure a smooth start to the transformation.

Response
Weakening Fibres
Paint is a silent threat to our safety ropes! Many paints contain chemicals that clash with nylon and other common rope materials. Paint and harsh chemicals on ropes can lead to fibre degradation, causing them to become fragile and more likely to snap when we least expect it.

Compromised Flexibility
Even if paint doesn’t immediately damage the fibres, it can form a stiff layer around the rope. This rigidity is no friend in times of need, as it reduces the rope’s flexibility and its essential shock-absorbing ability—both of which are vital for adequate fall protection.

Increased Abrasion Risk
Paint also increases our ropes’ vulnerability to abrasion. Like running over sharp edges or rough surfaces; this added wear and tear can slice through our ropes like butter, jeopardising their strength and reliability when we need them most.

Hindered Inspection Process
Lastly, paint makes inspecting our ropes a challenge. It hides potential damage lurking beneath its surface—a hidden danger that could go unnoticed until safety is severely compromised.
Outcome
So dramatic was the change of colour, that even on the first coat residents couldn’t help but express their disbelief at the transformation.
